Arrive Alive partnership is about casualty reduction, not detecting
speeding offences. In North Wales between January 1998 and December
2001 there were 10,631 personal injury collisions.

Road casualty trials were introduced in eight partnership areas
across the UK – South Wales, Strathclyde, Nottinghamshire,
Thames Valley, Northamptonshire, Essex, Cleveland and Lincolnshire.
Research at these sites showed that additional safety cameras:

Reduced the number of people killed or seriously injured
by 47%

Reduced the number of vehicles exceeding the speed limit
by more than 15mph by 80%
